Carlos Marcovich

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1963, and a resident of Mexico since 1976, Carlos studied Film at the C.U.E.C. (University Center of Film Studies) in Mexico City from 1982 to1987.  He rapidly established himself as one of Mexico’s most talented young cinematographers in the nineties, making his mark as director of photography on several contemporary Mexican feature films.

In 1993, Marcovich began to both direct and photograph Music Videos for popular Latin American bands and artists such as Emanuel, Paulina Rubio, Cecilia Toussaint, Kabah, and rock band Caifanes, for which he was nominated for an MTV Award.

It was during the shooting of a music video in Cuba that Marcovich  received the inspiration for his acclaimed first feature film “Who the hell is Juliette?”  which he produced, directed, shot, wrote, and edited over a period of three years. Based on the lives of real people, “Who the hell is Juliette?”  showcases Marcovich’s innovative storytelling abilities and sense of Magic Realism, remarkable cinematography , and poignant sense of humor, earning him the Best Latin American Movie Prize at the Sundance Film festival in 1998. He received an additional sixteen international awards in Spain, France, Cuba, Switzerland, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.

After the success of his feature film, Carlos Marcovich has worked as Director/Cameraman on various TV commercials for Los Angeles-based production company Milagro Films, where he has been able to combine his talents in directing both professional actors and real people and his unique visual style with great results.
